History

At an early age the following saying: “Love what you do! Do what you love!” gripped my imagination to the point where I decided to make this my life’s motto. To be happy in what we do is the cornerstone of success and gives us the freedom to optimise our true potential – not only in the workplace but in life as a whole. Like most creative’s I know, I spent a couple of years at the "university of life" not really sure where I would eventually make my mark as a productive and creative human being. I learnt many things but most of all I realized that making money and being creative does not cover a large scope of the job market, generally it’s either or.

In 1997 I joined Storm Models South Africa. The creative freedom that this career promised had predicted only good for the future. Soon after joining Storm, I was appointed as head booker of the men’s division where I gained an enormous amount of experience in management, fashion, sales and business in general. I realized that the requirements in the marketplace far exceeded that which was on offer. My business logic and desire to be more creative prompted me to start a new division in Storm dealing with all their design needs. Shortly thereafter we started servicing other agencies, as well as models with their own marketing. Once the division was fully operational as a cost centre and had its own momentum, I decided to venture out; I spread my wings and started LAB22 in 2004.

During the first couple of years LAB22 dealt in all areas of graphic design ranging from design for print and corporate identity through to various forms of multimedia and web. However, I discovered that I had completely fallen in love with the web. I realized that unless I made the decision to specialize in the field that I loved I would never be truly happy. It has not always been easy, but most of the time the journey has been totally invigorating! Learning, evolving and forming a personality whilst the web has become a truly exciting platform which in turn evolves and becomes more prominent every single day! We find ourselves with never a dull moment at hand since keeping up with the trends and new technologies is a part of our every day.

Today we specialise in web design. I find it fascinating how coding in the HTML & CSS languages gives me the power to transform my designs into perfectly working sites. I love the challenge of taking a stunning design and bringing it to life in a web browser.
So, here I am one of those very lucky people who love what they do and do what they love!
